Cooling Refrigerants of the Future. Stored in your air conditioner’s coils, refrigerants are liquids that cool and dehumidify your air. If there weren’t refrigerants, there wouldn’t be air conditioning. For a long time, the most common AC refrigerant was R-22 (Freon), but in 2012 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase-out of R-22 through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, it will be illegal to produce R-22 due to its destructive impact to the environment. Introducing R-410A To decrease environmental impacts, all Lennox® products are now designed to work with the new R-410A AC refrigerant. R-410A is EPA-recognized and doesn’t contain chlorine, so it’s ozone-friendly. You can feel at ease using this refrigerant in Groves because it’ll help make your system work efficiently, reliably and quietly, and provide the same cool comfort in the warmer months. Additional Considerations If your AC or heat pump was built prior to 2010, it may not be R-410A-compatible. You might think about upgrading your cooling system before R-22 is totally phased out. The old refrigerant will become rare in the next few years, costing you more to use your system effectively. The Lennox products we offer at Air Solutions, Inc work with R-410A, so you can be sure we have an AC or heat pump that better meets your needs. Be sure to avoid”alternate refrigerants that claim to work in R-22 systems. These include R-407C, R-438A and R-422, all of which can actually compromise your system’s performance.
